SHIFT creates a proxy file for every file uploaded in order to ensure optimal playback across all browsers. The original source file is preserved for download, while the proxy will match the resolution (up to 1280x720), frame rate, and bitrate (up to 4 MB/s).

Encoding files close to these specifications will ensure quicker processing once the file has uploaded to the system.  Here are the encoding settings for proxies that are created:

SHIFT can handle any files which meet our upload criteria and are below 30 GB in size. Files which are lower in complexity will result in faster compression time.
