All Spotlight presentations need a template. Templates are custom layouts that allow you to design your presentation to match the colors, look, and feel of your brand - or your client's. Templates offer rich customization options and can be reused in new presentations by any user on the account who creates a new presentation.
Creating A Template
Start using the Spotlight editor by clicking the Spotlight flame icon in the left-hand navigation bar under Projects. Here, you can select an already made template or create an all-new one.
Toggling this on allows you to share your template across the workspace with all users.
Under Template Type, you can select the Portal option to create a microsite.
Select the Slides template type if you want to create a slide deck.
Once you are done selecting your settings, click "Create Template" to go to the template editor.
Adding Elements to Your Template
To start adding content to your template, open the Elements panel by clicking the plus (+) icon in the left-hand toolbar.
Clicking an item in the Elements panel will add it to your canvas. Once added, you can click and drag the element anywhere on your canvas, or use your arrow keys to nudge the item in any direction. Elements are grouped into three categories: Type, Basic, and Media.
On the right-hand side is the properties panel. This provides many options for customizing your elements. Select any element on your canvas and then view the properties panel to see the available options.
To establish default fonts, colors, and layout settings, open the Design Settings panel by clicking the palette icon in the left-side toolbar. Settings in the Style tab will be applied to all new pages in your template after the settings are applied. This is a recommended place to start when designing a new Spotlight template.
To simplify the process of applying your brand logo to a Template, SHIFT saves that logo with the option to automatically add it in an Image Element.
First - make sure you have a workspace logo by uploading it in Administration.
Once saved - go to a Spotlight template and place an Image element in your Template. Click the gear icon to open the properties panel on the right. There, click the checkbox that says “Apply Brand Logo”.
Once you click the “Apply Brand Logo” your logo is immediately applied to the Image element and you can further resize and/or center it in the Template Builder.
Click the gear icon near the top-left corner of the page to open the page settings panel.
Here, you can adjust the size of your template as well as the background by either selecting a specific color or inserting an image.
Using the Layers Panel
The Layers panel lists all of the elements you have added to a page. To reorder them, click and drag the elements.
Using the Media Browser Panel
You can easily add assets to your canvas via the Media Browser panel. Use it to browse through your projects and to drag and drop assets from the panel to your canvas.
Using the Playlists Panel
The Playlists panel contains all available playlists and lets you create a new playlist without exiting the Spotlight editor. To insert a playlist into a media gallery, drag and drop the playlist directly from the Playlists panel to the media gallery on your canvas.
Another way to display your playlists is with the Tabs element. This element consists of two parts: (1) the tabs themselves and (2) a corresponding gallery. Each tab represents a different playlist, which gives you the ability to consolidate and present multiple playlists in a single gallery.
Go to the properties panel to customize your tabs or to add, delete, and edit your tabs.
Background Image Filters
To alter the look of an uploaded background image, there are several filter sliders that you can use: Grayscale, Blur, Sepia, Brightness, Contrast, Opacity, and Saturation. Move the sliders for each one until you have achieved the desired look of your background image.
When you upload a background image to your Spotlight template, there are three size options to choose from, depending on how you would like your background image to appear. These options are Cover, Contain, and Auto.
Cover: With this option chosen, your background image will be spread across your entire presentation template and will fill the screen of your presentation when you share or preview your spotlight.
Contain: This size option will have your background image fill the size of the template you have made for you spotlight presentation. To increase the size of your image, you will need to increase the size of your current template.
Auto: When this size option is selected, your background image size will depend on the size of the image you have uploaded. If you upload a large file to your presentation, Spotlight will automatically fill the background based on the size of the file.
The search bar allows users to search within a media gallery on the page.
To connect a search bar to a gallery, select the search bar and open the properties panel on the right. From the dropdown menu, select the media gallery for which you would like to enable the search.
To add a custom font to your Spotlight template, select the Design Settings icon on the left and open the Fonts tab. Here, you have the ability to enable or disable preloaded font styles and to import a custom font for use in the Spotlight template. The font import option supports both OTF and TTF formats.
Saving Your Work and Exiting
Save your work by clicking “Save” along the top of the page. From there, you can also update the template's name and description as well as export.
You can exit the template by clicking on the button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Don't worry - when you click the exit button, a confirmation window will pop up in case you forgot to save your changes.
