All Spotlight Presentations need a template. Templates are custom layouts that allow you to design your presentation to match the colors, look, and feel of your brand - or your client's. Templates offer rich customization options, and once created, can be reused in new presentations by any user on the account who creates a new presentation.
Creating A Template
Start using the Spotlight editor by clicking the Spotlight flame icon in the left-hand panel under projects. Here is where you can select an already made template or create an all-new one.
Toggling this on allows you to share your template across the workspace that is available in Spotlight for all of permitted Users.
Under template type you can select the Portal option to create a microsite.
Your template type can also be Slides if you are looking to create a slide deck.
Once you are done selecting your settings, click CREATE TEMPLATE to be directed to the blank canvas where you will build your template.
Adding Elements to Your Template
To began adding content to your template, open the Elements panel by clicking the plus (+) icon in the left-hand panel.
Clicking an item in the Elements panel will add it to your canvas. Once added, you can click and drag the element anywhere on your canvas as well as use your arrow keys to nudge the item in your desired direction.
Elements are grouped into three categories: Type, Basic, and Media.
On the right-hand side is the properties panel. This provides many options for customizing your elements. Select any element on your canvas and then view the properties panel to see the available options.
From the Design Setting’s Style Tab, you can establish default fonts, colors, and layout settings. These settings will be applied to all new pages within the Spotlight after the settings are applied. This is a recommended place to start when designing a new Spotlight template.
Click on the gear icon in the left-hand toolbar to open the page settings panel.
Here you can adjust the size of your template as well as the background by either selecting a specific color or inserting an image.
Using the Layers Panel
The Layers panel lists all of the elements you have added to a page. To reorder them, click and drag the elements.
Using the Media Browser Panel
Adding your assets is easily accessible now via the Media Browser Panel. Us it to browse through your projects and to drag and drop assets from the panel to onto your canvas.
Using the Playlists Panel
The Playlists panel holds all available playlists and lets you create a new playlist without exiting the Spotlight editor. To insert a playlist into a media gallery, drag and drop the playlist directly from the Playlists panel to the media gallery on your canvas.
Background Image Filters
To alter the look of an uploaded background image, there are several filter sliders that you can use: Greyscale, Blur, Sepia, Brightness, Contrast, Opacity, and Saturation. Move the sliders for each one until you have achieved the desired look of your background image.
When you upload a background image to your Spotlight Presentation, there are three size options available to you that you can choose from depending on how you would like your background image to appear.
These size options include Cover, Contain and Auto. See above gif which demonstrates how how each option effects how your background image will be seen in your Spotlight Presentation.
Cover - with this option chosen, your background image will be spread across your entire Presentation Template and will fill the screen of your Presentation when you Share or Preview your Spotlight.
Contain - this size option will have your background image fill the size of the template you have made for you Spotlight Presentation. To increase the size of your image, you will need to increase the size of your current template.
Auto - when this size option is selected, your background image size will depend on the size of the image you have uploaded. If you upload a large file type to your presentation, Spotlight will automatically fill the background based on the size of the file.
Once added to the page, the search bar allows users to search within the selected media gallery on page.
To choose which gallery for which the search functions, open the Settings tab on the right by selecting the gear icon. Select from the drop down menu which media gallery for which you would like to enable the search.
To add a custom font to your Spotlight template, select the design settings icon on the right and open the Fonts Tab. Here, you have the ability to enable or disable preloaded font styles as well as import a custom font for use in the Spotlight template.
Saving Your Work and Exiting
Save your work by clicking “Save” along the top of the template editor. From there you can update the name/description as well as export.
You can exit the template by clicking on the button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Don't worry - if you clicking the exit button a confirmation window will pop up in case you forgot to save your changes.
